Your Business Activity Statement (BAS) Partner in Sydney
When you have a busy business to run, customers to please, or supply chains to organise — completing and lodging your Business Activity Statement (BAS) can feel like a chore you could do without. It’s complex, drains your valuable time, and gives you even more stress on top of your day-to-day business worries.
However, filing your BAS regularly — and on time — is compulsory for GST-registered enterprises. Fail in your obligations, and you could be facing penalties, interest, or Director’s Penalty Notices (DPNs).
Reassuringly, DSV Partners takes away your concerns and reclaims your time.
Our experienced team of Certified Practising Accountants and Chartered Accountants ensures that your Business Activity Statement declaration is completed accurately, submitted promptly, and meets all ATO requirements. Your business remains compliant, and you can get on with running your enterprise.
What Is a Business Activity Statement (BAS)?
If your business is registered for GST — i.e. it has an annual turnover of $75k or more or is voluntarily registered — it requires an ATO BAS lodgement. This statutory form details your GST, PAYG, FBT, and other taxes, and must be submitted to the ATO to pay and report your liabilities.
You can file an activity statement online — or through the postal system — by yourself or a tax agent such as DSV Partners.
The Problems of an Overdue or Incorrect BAS
Forgetting to submit your Business Activity Statement to the ATO, burying your head in the sand, or providing inaccurate information can have rapid and serious implications for your business — and possibly you personally. Your BAS is obligatory and non-negotiable — it must be completed accurately and submitted on time.
Failing to meet your BAS duties can lead to:
Heavy Penalties
You may receive a Failure to Lodge (FTL) on time penalty, which increases as each day passes while your BAS isn’t delivered.
Interest Charges
On top of your penalties, General Interest Charges (GIC) will be applied, which increase every day.
Audits and Investigations
Serious errors or repeated late lodgings ring the ATO’s alarm bells, increasing the likelihood of a stressful audit.
Overpayment
Without expert advice, you could miss out on credits or eligible deductions, meaning you pay more tax than is necessary.
Directors Penalty Notices (DPNs)
If you fail to pay your penalties and interest, the ATO may try to claim your personal assets.
Stress and Negative Business Impacts
Worrying about ATO action, and time spent fixing errors or catching up on late filings, hits you and your enterprise hard.
How DSV Partners Helps Your Business With BAS
At DSV Partners, we work seamlessly with you or your team — whatever your industry sector — to ensure your Business Activity Statements are compiled correctly and lodged on time.
Generally speaking, our process includes:

Efficient Data Collection
We strive to find the most efficient ways to collate and assemble your financial data necessary for the BAS. This could include modern cloud-accounting platforms such as MYOB or Xero, secure portals to upload information, or taking control of your bookkeeping duties.

Accurate BAS Calculation
Once we have your financial information, we proceed to calculate your GST, address PAYG withholding variation matters and instalments, and determine any FBT components.

Verification and Review
Each BAS that DSV Partners completes is expertly reviewed by one of our in-house qualified accountants before it’s lodged. This ensures there are no errors, all relevant data is included, and eligible deductions or claims have been made.

Prompt Online Lodgement
We submit your Business Activity Statement directly to the ATO electronically. DSV Partners ensures this is completed before the deadline stated by the ATO — depending on your reporting duties — and removing the chance of penalties.

Transparent Reporting and Communication
You are kept inside the loop at all times. We issue you with copies of your BAS returns, inform you of submission, explain any duties or refunds, and — where appropriate or required — give insights and advice on your financial position.

Further, Proactive Advice
With one of our tailored accounting packages, your business can benefit from a wide range of assistance related to your BAS. From bookkeeping to accountancy, and business advisory to tax and audits — DSV Partners can help your operation succeed, prosper, and grow.
Business Activity Statements Due Dates
It’s not just the tax data collection, reconciliation, and calculation that presents time-consuming stress and worry for your business — but also the multitude of different ATO BAS lodgement dates.
The tax office expects your submissions to be punctual and regular — delivered to their desks on the date that they specify. This changes from business to business, depending on your level of turnover.
BAS Reporting Cycles Requirements
- Quarterly — if your Goods Sales Tax is less than $20M, and the ATO hasn’t instructed you to lodge every month.
- Monthly — if your Goods Sales Tax is $20M or greater, or if you’ve informed the ATO you want to report monthly.
- Annually — if you volunteered for Goods Sales Tax registration, and your turnover is smaller than $75K ($150K for not-for-profits).
BAS Due Dates
- Quarterly BAS Due Dates — the 28th of October, February, April, and July for the previous three months.
- Monthly BAS Due Dates — the 21st of every month, detailing the data from the previous month.
- Annual BAS Due Dates — the 31st of October, but if you don’t need to make a tax return, the date is the 28th of February.
Adhering to these numerous, complex deadlines is a burden you and your business don’t have to carry. DSV Partners eases your load by taking on the BAS due dates responsibility as your expert tax agent — ensuring your lodgements are prompt and precise.
What to Do if Your BAS Is Wrong or Late
Should you forget about a BAS deadline, notice you’ve made a business activity statement error, or receive a late submission penalty — don’t panic! Talk immediately to DSV Partners — we can help put you reassuringly back on track:

Business Activity Statement FAQs
What Is a PAYG Withholding Variation Application?
This enables an individual to lower the amount of tax withheld from their wages. It affects the BAS, as it determines how much the employer of that person withholds — which is stated on the activity statement.
Can I Lodge My BAS Myself? Is It Better To Use an Accountant?
Yes! You are permitted to lodge your BAS to the ATO yourself. That said, many businesses choose a BAS expert — such as DSV Partners — to complete and submit on their behalf.
This ensures accuracy, prevents worry, guarantees timely delivery, and helps you claim all eligible claims or deductions.
What Is an Online Activity Statement?
This is an electronic version of the Business Activity Statement (BAS). The service is provided by the ATO, and allows you to create, lodge, and view your BAS securely and effortlessly online.
Do I Need To Send a Business Activity Statement to the ATO as a Sole Trader?
If you’re registered for GST as a sole trader — or you will reach the $75k annual turnover threshold, that means registration is required — you must file a BAS.
